There were 5 of them, one brother and 4 sisters, at least one of them a pioneer, engaging in the field service opposite where I was cleaning windows the other day.
It was comical but sad to see the lengths they were going to to avoid knocking at the doors of the houses.
There was a row of about 8 houses, all attached, so very little distance between each door. They all stood at one end and talked for a few minutes. Then 2 of them walked (at snails pace) to the other end of the houses and knocked at the door and waited...and talked...and waited...and talked...and waited....
The others meanwhile were at the other end and the brother...who was on his own...did one door before linking up with the girls for another 5 minute chat!
It took at least 10 minutes for them to complete the row...(about 2 people came to the doors) and then they stood talking again, after which the pioneer sister and her partner left the group, I should imagine, to go on 'calls'.
The body language of all of them said...'I do not want to be here'.
No doubt the pioneer would be on the platform (against her will) talking lying about the 'thrilling' experiences she enjoys in the ministry and the joy of the preaching work.... on a - 'if you have the circumstances to pioneer but dont...youre dead meat' item.
It really made me appreciate the fact that I do not have to do that excruciating work again!

Im a season ticket holder at Hull City...the Tigers....2 promotions back to back have put us in the Championship for the first time in 19 long years. I think we will struggle, but stay up.
We have an impressive stadium and a great chairman (Adam Pearson) and manager, Peter Taylor. So the future is Black and Amber!

I woke up this morning to the sound of rainfall on the window and thought how many JWs will be offering a silent prayer of thanks (to someone) that they will be excused from the trials and tribulations of the ministry today.
Saturday morning was the only day of the week when black clouds in the sky were welcomed...
It is amazing how one drop of rain could send the most "zealous" of publishers scurrying from the service...
Of course now I hope for sunshine on a saturday, so that I can enjoy my day of rest and relaxation.........

Did you ever find any of Jehovahs pronouncements 'thrilling'?
by IronGland inthings like a new book campaign or the chance to go in service on a sunday or a resolution.
or instructions on where not to eat etc.

Remember the 'special' boxes with some new 'thrilling' material that we werent allowed to open till after the special meeting...how childish was that....and werent we all thrilled when it turned out to be .....a NEW TRACT! WOW! or some other rehashed information..we had all heard before....

I downloaded the book from my.lulu.com a few months ago...i think it cost 5 dollars. I dont know if it still works but I concur that the book is a must read...its devastatingly simplistic logic shows the 'truth' to be untruth without getting involved in any scriptural, archaelogical, scientific, arguments..It simply shows that they cannot possibly have been identified by Jesus as being the true religion when he...in their opinion, inspected the earth in 1918..READ IT!

JWS leading a double life
by greendawn indo you know (or have you ever known) of apparently loyal or even fanatical jws that lead a double life?
they may appear godly and obedient but in secret they bend the rules eg by fornication, cheating etc

I work with a witness who admits he cannot live up to the faith but its 'done him a lot of good and saved him from a life of drugs and probable early death' It hasnt however taught him to be honest. He pays no tax and no rent due to his fiddling his income..oh and he doesnt have a TV licence because he doesnt agree with it.... but has a 42' tv up in his bedroom which he plugs in to watch his fave programs.
He has 2 friends who are almost as bad as he is....all JWs in good standing...
Then there are all the youngsters ffing and blinding, getting drunk and fornicating
I wonder where my rose coloured specs went......

After 15 Years I Finally Did It
by Honesty ini publicly said the pledge of allegiance with my right hand over my heart.
the irony of it all is it happened during vacation bible school this week in my church's sanctuary.
it felt good.

But they say that because they think they're better than the average worldly joe.
Do you not think that patriotism/nationalism can foster the belief that you are superior to people of other nations? (the 'average worldly joe' of another country)
I still have trouble with patriotism...especially when I look at the way a lot of my fellow Englishmen act when abroad...I am ashamed sometimes to be a Brit.

Relationships and age difference
by greendawn inpeople say that love is blind to age difference but when you have/had to strike a relationship or marry with someone what's the maximum age difference that is/was acceptable to you?

My father was 47 when he married my mother, 20. As kids you accept such things as normal, but I know that some at that time (late 1950's) thought that they would have retarded children. (No comments please!)
I am now 47 and i think my dad must have believed all his xmasses had come at once! I sure would..so if there are any 20 somethings out there at a loose end.......*daydreams*.......
They were married for 15 years, during which time my dad became a JW and my mum never did. I think it was a combination of age difference and the intolerant policies at that time of the WTS which meant you could not show consideration for the unbelievers, which led to the breakdown. (It WAS a lot more black and white then) My mother felt totally neglected at times because my father, even though he was a gentle man, would not miss anything 'spiritual' to spend time with her.
I think an age difference of that magnitude is bound to affect the relationship later in life unless there is some really special bond there...

Did you ever experience Holy Spirit?
by Ring Wielder ini was a jw for 40 years.
although as an individual/cong/body of elders holy spirirt was prayed for, i cannot think of one moment when i thought..right now i have gods spirit acting upon me.
it was never described adequately for me to completely understand and i suspect that others felt the same, yet everyone talked as though they knew exactly how it worked.

Hi Sunspot...You describe having HS as 'a feeling of peace and wellbeing that soothes you for the moment'. How are you so sure that this is HS and not just a 'feeling of wellbeing that soothes you for the moment'.
I dont mean to be flippant, but when i am in the countryside close to nature i have a feeling that sometimes wells up inside of me of intense emotion, i think due to the overwhelming beauty and colour in nature. I could put a couple of names to it...but i wont, because i dont know that I would be correct in doing so.
My point is, that unless i feel something that i have never felt before, i would always have to attribute the feeling to a mood or emotion that i was experiencing at that time...otherwise I could attribute all feelings and emotions to some extraterrestrial source..such as Holy Spirit...
I am therefore of the mind that all my feelings and emotions are just that... natural mind/environment/experience produced, feelings and emotions...not the influence of Holy Spirit or Demon Possession
